Fort Dodge standoff ends peacefully.

Police in Fort Dodge were summoned late Saturday afternoon to 1704 11th Avenue South in reference to a distraught male believed to be throwing items of a window at his residence. Neighbors in the area were concerned about the well being of the individual. Patrol officers responded and found the male still throwing items from his residence along with a number of household items laying in the yard. The man would not allow officers in the residence and would not come out to speak with officers.

Based on the man's demeanor upon the initial investigation where he made statements of hurting himself or others it was decided to secure the residence and call in the Special Emergency Response Team.Over the next few hours the team members made contact with the subject,but he continued to be irrational and throw objects into the yard. Based on the totality of the circumstances, the Special Emergency Response Team members made a tactical entry and secured the subject without incident or injury.

The male was taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center for mental evaluation and treatment. At this point, no charges will be filed. The name of the subject will not be released at this point since no charges are being filed. The Fort Dodge Police was assisted in this incident by the Webster County Sheriff's Office,Iowa State Patrol and Trinity Regional Medical Center.
