Cousins Law to be explained at a meeting in Webster City this Thursday evening.
Posted: Oct 08 2012 by ppowers

It has been nearly three months since 9 year old Elizabeth Collins and 10 year old Lyric Cook have been missing from Evansdale. This Thursday evening at 7:00, the Hamilton County League of Women Voters welcomes Robin Arnold to give a presentation on the Cousins Law. Arnold will give a background into this proposed bill that may be considered by the Iowa Legislature this January. Already the bill is gaining momentum through an on line petition drive. There would be five guidelines as part of the Cousins Law. First, the parents will need to report their child is missing right away, otherwise they will be fined. The second is that law-enforcement will access the national non profit service called "A Child is Missing". The third guideline would include voluntary vehicle searches. The fourth is that the Cousins Law alert be shown on billboards and other roadside signs. The fifth guideline is that if it gets to the eight hour mark,it's time to look into the hot spots for human trafficking. The program by Arnold will be held at the Webster City Fire Station meeting room.
