County campgrounds are ready to go for the season in Hamilton County.
Posted: Apr 25 2013 by ppowers

The Hamilton County Conservation Board Thursday morning learned that all of the county campground facilities are open for the season. Conservation director Brian Lammers said that staff have been busy in preparing the facilities for the visitors from now until fall. Lammers said he expects a good attendance for this weekend in the parks.

Lammers said that there were no bids received for the roof replacement project at both the conservation office and maintenance building and for the golf course club house facility at Briggs Woods Park. He told the board that he will seek new quotes and will take the lowest quote received. Work is expected to begin in the next few weeks once the quotes are received to the conservation department.

Penny Brown representing the Prairie Rivers R C and D organization met with the Hamilton County Conservation board as she presented a marketing plan for the new cabins to be constructed this year at Briggs Woods, Bells Mill and Little Wall Lake Parks. Brown said she plans to lay the basics with a group of Iowa State University design students to work on the marketing proposal that will be presented to the conservation board at next month's meeting.

A report from the Iowa County Assurance Pool was presented to the conservation board on the status of the Little Wall Lake boat house inspection held recently. The structure that was built nearly 50 years ago is facing several issues including a leaky roof, trip hazards and the forming of black mold. The conservation board Thursday decided not to open the boat house at Little Wall Lake for reservations this year but the public can still use the surrounding dock for fishing.

The decision on a cabin donation policy was tabled until next month's board meeting. The meeting date will be on May 30 at 1:00 p.m. at a location to be announced.
