The public is invited to tour the new Legacy Cabin constructed at Briggs Woods Park south of Webster City. The Briggs Woods Legacy Cabin will be open for a ribbon cutting ceremony and tour at an Open House event scheduled for this Friday,October 5 at 10:00 a.m. It will again be open to the public on Sunday, October 7th from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m.The construction of the cabin is a groundbreaking effort of many partners, including Hamilton County Conservation Board, Prairie Rivers of Iowa R.C.& D, Enhance Hamilton County Foundation and many volunteers. Briggs Woods County Park is one of Iowa's oldest parks and is considered by many to be a "crown jewel" among Iowa's county parks.
Hamilton County Conservation Director Brian Lammers said the Hamilton County Conservation Legacy account was developed years ago for the future management of the county's natural resources and wildlife management. The Legacy Cabin is a significant component of future planning. It will serve as a model for natural resource utilization and will provide revenue back into the parks. There are plans to unveil future county park cabins in the future.
The unit sleeps 12 to 15 people in three bedrooms with an extra sleeping area over the porch. It is completely furnished with a full kitchen and is sited just steps away from Briggs Woods Lake, golf course, a swimming beach, fishing, hiking and bike trails.
To get to the cabin, go to Briggs Woods County Park south of Webster City on Highway 17, enter the park and follow the signs to the Legacy Cabin.
