Bode man fatally injured in Friday accident

The Iowa State Patrol investigated an accident Friday afternoon that claimed the life of a 35 year old Bode man. The victim is identified as Mathias J. Berte. The accident happened at the intersection of  Humboldt County Roads P-66 and C-54 two miles south of Bode.Reportedly a westbound 2002 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Berte failed to stop  at the intersection and was struck by a northbound 2000 International semi-tractor pulling a fully loaded grain trailer driven by 35 year old Kevin R. Nichols of Fort Dodge. Berte was pronounced dead at the accident scene. Nichols had to be extricated from the overturned semi. He was transported to Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.The accident was also investigated by the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department.
