Bishop Garrigan to leave the North Central Conference in 2014

The Webster City Community School Board Monday night learned that Bishop Garrigan  of Algona will become a new member of the North Iowa Conference beginning with the 2014-15 school year. Bishop Garrigan has been a part of the conference since 1994. The Algona school would join Osage,Belmond Klemme,Garner Hayfield,Forest City,Lake Mills,and North Iowa school districts for athletic and academic activities. The school boards of the North Iowa Conference would vote to allow Bishop Garrigan to join the conference. Superintendent Mike Sherwood told the Webster City School Board that Eagle Grove and Clarion Goldfield has had talks with the North Iowa Conference but have yet to petition to join. The North Central Conference has been in existence for 88 years. It is one of the leading school conferences in Iowa with a high success rate in academics and athletics among its students. The current members of the North Central Conference are Algona, Clear Lake, Clarion Goldfield, Eagle Grove,Hampton Dumont,Fort Dodge St. Edmond's,Humboldt, Iowa Falls Alden, and Webster City.
