Webster City boys golf qualifies for Class 3A State Tournament

The Webster City Lynx boys golf team made the trip west on Monday morning top compete in their Class 3A District Golf meet at Spencer Golf and Country Club in Spencer. The Lynx were joined by the host Tigers, Council Bluffs Lewis Central, Carroll and MOC-Floyd Valley.

Devon Stoakes was the top Lynx golfer, shooting a 77 (+5) en route to a 4th place finish, tied with Spencer’s James Slattery. Garrett Arnold and Drew Schwering would finish as the next best scores for the Lynx, with both golfers shooting an 80 (+8) on the day, good enough for a tie for 7th place. Beau Klaver rounded out the Webster City top 4 with a score of 83, putting him in a 4-way tie for 8th place.

Webster City would finish tied for 2nd as a team with MOC-Floyd Valley, with each squad shooting a 320 overall. Spencer was the team champion with a score of 312. All three teams will qualify for the Class 3A State Tournament, marking the first time since 2017 the Lynx have made the state tournament.

The Class 3A State Tournament will be held on May 23rd and May 24th, with tee times at 10:30 AM on the 23rd and 9:00 AM on the 24th, with action taking place at Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.
