Webster City city council announce city wide clean up days for June 10 and 11

The Webster City city council Monday evening set June 10 and 11 as the city wide clean up days. It will be a time for residents to bring their non hazardous materials to the Webster City middle school parking lot for disposal. The program has been held for the last few years. The Webster City high school wrestling team will assist city volunteers during the clean up effort. Hours for the clean up will from 12 noon until 4 on June 10 and from 8 until 2 on June 11. There will be more information coming from the city on what items can and cannot be accepted for the clean up event. This is limited to Webster City residents.
A request from the Webster City Area Chamber of Commerce on closing off Des Moines Street between First and Second Streets for the Farmers Market was approved. The market will be held Thursday evenings from 5:00 until 8:00 between June and August. The chamber will have information on the market in the next few weeks.
In other matters, the Webster City city council Monday approved a resolution to the install a Firepit Memorial in memory of Scott Jaycox at Brewer Creek Park. The firepit will be located 60 to 70 feet west of the BrewerCreek shelter. Work on the firepit will begin sometime later this spring. The firepit is one of two projects this year at Brewer Creek Park. The other one is the sculpture in memory of Kent Harfst with work on the sculpture to start soon.
The Webster City city council set May 16 at 6:05 p.m. for a public hearing on the proposed plan and specifications, form of contract,and estimate of cost for the Water Treatment Facility Improvement project.
A request from Kendall Young Library to close a portion of the 600 block of Water Street on April 28 from 5:00 until 6:30 for a library game event was approved. The first reading on ordinances pertaining to offenses related to minors and for businesses withing the corporate limits of Webster City was read with the next reading on Monday,May 2.
A resolution approving the designation of coronavirus relief funds for future purchase for a new style of water meters was approved. The city plans to earmark over 1.4 million dollars from the American Rescue Plan Act for the meters. The meters will be installed in homes and businesses in Webster City collecting customer water usage data in near real time. See less
