Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball swept in doubleheader with Humboldt

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams were back in action on Thursday night as they traveled west on Highway 3 to take on North Central Conference rival Humboldt. The Wildcat girls entered with a 7-6 record, while the Humboldt boys entered with a 10-0 record and ranked #4 in Class 3A.

CGD’s girls entered looking to snap a 7-game losing streak against a Humboldt squad that had been very up and down throughout the season. CGD looked improved in their efforts from Tuesday night, still trailing after the first, 15-6. CGD would keep it interesting in the 2nd as well, only trailing 32-18, before Humboldt would blow it open in the 2nd half en route to a 56-31 win. Alexis Hansen finished with 18 points for Humboldt, while Lexie Lane finished with 13 for the Cowgirls.

The boys game saw a matchup of two of the 17 remaining undefeated teams in Iowa, and one would go home with their first loss. Both sides evenly matched wits in the first half, as a late spurt by the Wildcats gave them a 33-26 halftime lead. Humboldt’s hot shooting finally caused separation, as the Wildcats lit up the stout Cowboy defense for 16 three-pointers in the game. Humboldt used 44 2nd half points to pick up a 77-60 win over the Cowboys.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Monday, when they host county rival Eagle Grove.
