Eagle Grove basketball splits doubleheader with St. Edmond

The Eagle Grove basketball teams kicked off their week on Monday with a short trip south to Fort Dodge to take on an old conference foe in Fort Dodge, St. Edmond. The Gael girls entered with 0-9 record, while the Gael boys entered with a record of 4-5.

The girls game kicked things off with Eagle Grove looking to pick up their 2nd consecutive win to kick off their 2022 slate, following a win over North Iowa, Buffalo Center. The Eagles got after it from the get out, and led St. Edmond’s 15-6 at halftime, before the offenses picked up steam. The Eagles were able to fend off the Gaels late to pick up a 41-37 victory over the Gaels.

The boys then took the floor as Eagle Grove looked to snap a 7-game losing streak. Monday would not be their night however, with St. Edmond’s jumping out to a 17-7 lead after the first quarter. The Eagles would keep it close at halftime, just trailing 28-16, before the Gaels blew it open in the second half, outscoring Eagle Grove 35-18 en route to a 63-34 win.

Eagle Grove returns to action on Tuesday, when they host the Indians of Forest City at Eagle Grove Elementary School.
