Eagle Grove basketball swept in doubleheader by West Hancock

Eagle Grove’s basketball teams returned to the hardwood on Friday night as they faced off with the Eagles of West Hancock. The West Hancock women entered with a 1-0 record and ranked #9 in Class 2A, while the West Hancock boys entered with a 0-1 record following a season-opening loss to defending conference champions Lake Mills.

West Hancock jumped out of the gate quickly against the Eagle Grove girls, leading 22-2 at the end of the 1st quarter, before pouring more offense on as they led 47-7 at halftime. The 2nd half saw many backups receive extended action, en route to a 69-15 win for the 9th-ranked Eagles. Kennedy Kelly led all scorers with 20 points for West Hancock.

The Eagle Grove boys then took the court, looking to build off of their encouraging performance at Forest City on Tuesday night. However, a stout West Hancock defense provided a big resistance to the Eagles on Friday, as West Hancock held a 28-19 lead at halftime. However, the difference was a 14-0 3rd quarter for West Hancock, which propelled them to a 63-36 win. Rylan Barnes led all scorers for West Hancock with 25 points, while Eagle Grove’s Drake Canavan finished with 11.
