Webster City basketball travels to Pocahontas Area on Tuesday

The Webster City Lynx will have their first doubleheader action on the season, as they travel north and west to take on the Indians of Pocahontas Area in Pocahontas. The Girls series is currently tied 3-3 in the QuikStats/Varsity Bound era, while the Webster City boys lead their series 4-2.

The Pocahontas girls are led by strong junior class, as Carly Janssen, Akayas Duitscher and Abby Oberhelman all averaged double-digit points per game in 2020-21. Duitscher was the leading scorer, averaging 16.9 PPG a season ago. However, it was Janssen who was the outstanding scorer against Humboldt, as she contributed 34 points, with 4 rebounds and 6 assists. Abby Oberhelman scored a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The Pocahontas boys do not return their top 4 scorers from a season ago, as Trey Oehlertz, Luke Crosgrove, Luke Vanderham and Mike Vonnahme all depart. Oehlertz led Pocahontas in scoring with 17.4 PPG in 2020-21. Players such as Chase Cook, Chase Boysen and Gavin Ehn will look to fill the roles of the seniors from a season ago for Pocahontas.

The Webster City girls come in with an 0-2 record, and are looking to get into the win column for the first time in 2021-22. The Webster City boys are looking to build off of a strong finish to last season, with key returnees back such as Ty McKinney, Jamin Stuhr and Beau Klaver.
