Wright County Rivalry marks season’s open for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove open up their 2021-22 season’s against one another on Monday night, as the former North Central Conference foes continue to meet, even following the Eagles departure following the 2013-14 school year.

The Girls will kick things off at 6 PM, as the Cowgirls look to move to 2-0, following their season-opening win over Southeast Valley last Monday. The Cowgirls hold a 21-1 series advantage over Eagle Grove in the QuikStats/Varsity Bound era, as they will follow the lead of star junior Lexie Lane, who scored 36 points in the win against Southeast Valley.

The Eagle Grove girls will be breaking in many new faces to the varsity floor, as the Eagles graduate their top 4 scorers from a season ago. Braxton Steil is the lone returnee that saw extended action on the floor a season ago, and will look to lead a very young Eagles team.

On the boys side, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will look for their 11th straight win against Eagle Grove since 2014. The Cowboys hold a 23-14 series lead over the Eagles since the turn of the century, and will look to extend the longest winning streak in the series since 2000, on Monday night. The Cowboys return All-NCC forward Connor State, who averaged nearly 17 PPG and over 8 RPG last season, as well as a plethora of upperclassmen.

Eagle Grove will look to pick up their first win in nearly 2 years on Monday, with a young team relative to experience on the varsity court. Drake Canavan is the leading returning scorer for the Eagles, as he averaged nearly 7 PPG as a freshman. Fellow upperclassmen in Jordan Morris and Tate Richardson will also look to lead the charge for the Eagles.

Tipoff is slated for 6 PM for the girls, and the boys will follow from Eagle Grove Elementary School. Quinn Douglas will have the call on KZWC.
