UNI men fall to Vermont at home, 71-57

The UNI men’s basketball team fell to a surprising 0-2 mark on Thursday night, as they lost to the Vermont Catamounts, 71-57. The Panthers lost to Nicholls State in their season-opener on Tuesday.

AJ Green bounced back from a poor season-opener, and led UNI in scoring with 19 points, including 3, three-pointers. Austin Phyfe reached doubled-digits for the 2nd consecutive game with 11, and Noah Carter also contributed 11 points off the bench. UNI as team only shot 35.8% from the field.

Vermont was led in scoring by Ben Shungu, who had a team-high 19 points. Isaiah Powell also had a big night with 17 points, including a trio of three pointers. Robin Duncan only scored 7 points, but was crucial on the boards, adding 11 rebounds.

Next action for UNI will be on Sunday, when they host the University of Dubuque at the McLeod Center, tipoff is scheduled for 5 PM.
