Webster City downs Waterloo East in regional opener, 3-1

The Webster City Lynx volleyball team opened postseason play on Tuesday as they hosted the Trojans of Waterloo East. Waterloo East entered with a 8-19 record, and looked to pull the 1st-round upset of the Lynx.

Webster City dominated the first two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-13, after both teams traded rallies early on in each set. Waterloo East was able to steal the 3rd set by a score of 25-22, as they were able to keep the Lynx at arms length. Webster City would dominate the 4th set, taking it 25-14, to garner a 3-1 victory over the Trojans.

Junior Sierra Rattenborg finished with a staggering 22 kills on the night, while Reese Casey finished with 11 kills. Joslin Gourley excelled in her setter role, as she tallied 36 assists. Abby Gallantine was dominant on the front line, as she recorded 8 blocks, while Alayna Finucan totaled 35 digs.

The Lynx advance to face #3 Waverly-Shell Rock on Thursday night at 7 PM, at Waverly-Shell Rock High School. 95.7 KQWC will carry live coverage of the event.
