Eagle Grove fends off Manson-Northwest Webster, 20-18

Eagle Grove traveled to Manson-Northwest Webster on Friday night for a Class 1A, District 2 showdown. Eagle Grove entered with a 1-4 record, while Manson-Northwest Webster entered with a 2-3 record, as it was homecoming for the Cougars.

The Eagles got off to a fast start, punching in a pair of touchdowns in the 1st quarter to put Eagle Grove up 14-0 at the end of the period. The Cougars would answer with a big 2nd quarter, as they put 16 points on the board behind two Shawn Kenyon touchdown passes to give Manson-Northwest Webster a 16-14 halftime lead.

Eagle Grove would then strike again in the 3rd quarter, to go up 20-16. Manson’s defense would force a safety to bring the score to 20-18, but late interceptions doomed the Cougars as Eagle Grove picked up it’s first district win since 2017.

Next action for Eagle Grove will be against Belmond-Klemme on Friday, the game will be the KZWC Game of the Week.
