Clarion-Goldfield-Dows falls in shootout with #1 Southeast Valley, 62-31

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows welcomed in Class 2A #1 Southeast Valley to Clarion on Friday night in Class 2A, District 2 action. The Jaguars entered with wins over foes such as Estherville-Lincoln Central and OABCIG and were the lone undefeated team remaining in Class 2A.

The scoring started almost immediately, as Lathe Meunch capped off the first drive of the night with a 25-yard touchdown run to put Southeast Valley up 6-0. The Jaguars would stay on the ground, as quarterback Kolson Kruse broke off a 50-yard touchdown run on the ensuing possession to put the Jaguars up 14-0. Kruse then turned to the air, as he hit receiver Tre Fisher on a fade pattern for a 16-yard touchdown pass, to put Southeast Valley up 22-0. The Cowboys would respond as quarterback Preston Gardner went up top to Jaxon Carpenter for a 46-yard touchdown pass to get CGD on the board, 22-7.

Southeast Valley would respond almost instantaneously, as Kolson Kruse launched a 65-yard bomb to Eli Johnson for Kruse’s 3rd touchdown of the first half, to put Southeast Valley up 30-7. Kruse would throw 2 more touchdown passes in the first half, one to Tre Fisher, and the other to Kolton Brant, to put the Jaguars up 44-17 at halftime. Kruse would throw and rush for an additional touchdown in the 2nd half, giving him 7 total touchdowns on the night. The Cowboys would have the final score of the night of a 4-yard Neven Foss touchdown run to give the final of 62-31.

Clarion-Golfield-Dows falls to 3-3 with the loss and will travel to #4 Spirit Lake on Friday.
