Week 4 Football Preview: #4/#4 Estherville-Lincoln Central vs. NR/#10 Clarion-Goldfield-Dows

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will kick off district play, in one of the State of Iowa’s toughest districts, with #4 Estherville-Lincoln Central on Friday. The Cowboys come in ranked #10 in this week’s AP Poll, but not rated in the Radio Iowa poll. This will be the 9th all-time meeting between the two schools, with ELC leading the series 5-3.

The Midgets are lead by dual-threat quarterback Ryan Schiltz, who has thrown for 509 yards and 9 touchdowns, while rushing for another 195 and 2 touchdowns, both are team highs. The Midgets will also see run game contributions from Zavion McMurrian. The top receivers for ELC have been seniors Lamont Whiting and Daryl Jensen, as well as sophomore sensation Owen Larson, who has 3 receiving touchdowns this season.

The Cowboys finished non-district play undefeated for the 1st time since 2016 with their win over Forest City. Quarterback Preston Gardner has been a revelation for CGD, as he has rushed for nearly 400 yards and 6 touchdowns in just 2 games at quarterback. Gardner rushed for over 200 yards and 4 touchdowns a week ago. Junior running back Nevan Foss has been hitting the ground hard as well, rushing for 174 yards and 4 TD’s through the first 3 weeks.

Kickoff will be at 7 PM in Clarion, the game will be carried on 92.9 FM/1570 AM as the KZWC Game of the Week with Quinn Douglas on the call.
