Webster City falls to explosive Humboldt offense, 35-7

Webster City opened their season with Humboldt on Friday night, a team in which the Lynx had won 8 of the last 10 meetings against. After an undefeated 2020 regular season, the 2021 season started much differently as Humboldt ambushed Webster City into a 35-7 victory.

The scoring started in the 2nd quarter, after a Webster City fumble, it took 2 plays for Wildcats quarterback Cade Matson to find senior receiver Jacob Heier for a 77-yard touchdown reception to give Humboldt a 7-0 lead. The Wildcats struck again in the 2nd quarter with Matson finding Will Orness for a 10-yard touchdown, the first of three touchdown receptions by Orness, to give Humboldt a 14-0 lead. Cade Matson would throw his third of five touchdowns on the night before halftime, to give Humboldt a 21-0 lead.

Humboldt remained in control for the second half, scoring two more touchdowns on throws by Cade Matson, who finished 15-of-16 for 214 yards and five touchdowns, before the Lynx put a score on the board from CJ Hisler, to set the final score at 35-7.

Humboldt starts its season at 1-0 and will face Garner-Hayfield-Ventura this Friday night, Webster City drops to 0-1 and will travel to Boone to take on the Toreadors on Friday night.
