Cowgirls Volleyball aim for fourth consecutive state appearance

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball team has been the class of the North Central Conference for the past 5 seasons, and perhaps, among the best 3A programs in all of Iowa. Last season marked the Cowgirls 3rd consecutive state tournament appearance, that included a quarterfinal win against the Red Oak Tigers, before bowing out to the Mount Vernon Mustangs in the semifinals.

Head Coach Katrina TerHark enters her 9th season at the helm in Clarion, and has established a strong winning tradition in her time with the Cowgirls, holding a career win-loss record of 195-82, with a win percentage of 70.3%. TerHark loses 6 of 8 starters from last year’s semi-final team, including star hitter and current member of the North Dakota State Bison volleyball team, Morgan Middleton.

However, great programs are able to reload every year, and the Cowgirls have the base to do so, as they return junior Lexie Lane and senior Summer Traub, and will be playing juniors and seniors such a Delia Swanson, Brooke Askelsen and Nikki Kapka, who will look to produce a winning formula for the Cowgirls.

The Cowgirls will open their season on Thursday, September 2nd, with a road trip to Webster City to take on the Lynx in North Central Conference action.
