South Hamilton football looks to replace historic senior class

This most recent group of South Hamilton football seniors were the winningest group of Hawks players in the playoff era for South Hamilton football. The group lead by stars such as Trevor Thompson, Brock Galetich, Lane Swenson, Carter Hewitt, Dominic Summers and Colton Willis, finished their high school careers with 29 wins and 3 playoff appearances.

As the fall of 2021 approaches, Corey Klemp’s squad, while having pieces to replace, still bring back a solid nucleus of contributors from last season’s playoff team. They will be lead by seniors Austin Busch, Elijah Balderas and Tycin Barkema.

Busch finished second on the team in tackles in 2020 with 49 overall as well as a having a fumble recover and an interception. Tycin Barkema finished with 16.5 tackles, 1 fumble recovery and 2 interceptions and will likely be the bell cow at running back. Elijah Balderas will help anchor a strong linebacking core, while anchoring the Hawks offensive line.

South Hamilton will play in Class 1A, District 2 that includes Belmond-Klemme, Eagle Grove, Manson Northwest Webster, South Central Calhoun and Woodward-Granger. The Hawks open their season on August 27th against rival Roland-Story at 7 PM in Jewell.
