ABC/Rick RowellKesha‘s lawsuit against her former producer Dr. Luke, born Lukasz Gottwald, has been dragging on since 2014, when she accused him of sexually assaulting her in 2005. He has repeatedly denied the claims and sued her for defamation. Now court documents released pertaining to the case have inspired Lady Gaga to comment.
First, some background. In a statement to ABC News, Dr. Luke’s team said, “In 2016, Kesha told Lady Gaga that Dr. Luke [sexually assaulted] Katy Perry, which is outrageous and untrue. Katy Perry testified under oath in this case that Dr. Luke never [assaulted] her. Regardless, Kesha refused to apologize. Instead, she issued a press release which again irresponsibly suggested that Katy Perry was actually [assaulted] by Dr. Luke.”
Court documents published yesterday by The Blast of Katy’s deposition in 2017 support Luke’s contention that Katy denied under oath that Luke assaulted her. But court documents obtained by US Weekly show a series of texts between Kesha and Lady Gaga in 2016 in which they express their dismay that Katy hasn’t spoken out against Luke.
In the 2016 texts, according to US Weekly, Kesha wrote to Gaga, “I’m really upset with Katy Perry. She could bring the whole thing to a head but she won’t.”
Gaga replied, “She is probably really afraid to lose everything. U are really strong standing up to him, she’s not as strong as u yet.”
Kesha responded, “your [sic] right. I need to find sympathy and empathy for her. she’s so mean. it’s hard.”
To which Gaga responded, “Do u want me to see if I can talk to her. I know she’s mean. She makes me angry about s**t [but] I just try to have empathy for her.”
On Friday, following the publication of the texts, Gaga tweeted, “@katyperry & I have grown up in the industry together. We’ve gone through both celebrations & differences w/ each other. These are old texts.”
She adds, “We’ve matured, gotten over the past, love each other & share deep respect. Katy is my friend and is truly a kind soul. End of story.”
