Sheila Seamands, 94, a former Webster City resident, died Wednesday,October 31,2018 at Journey Senior Living in Ankeny. A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
Sheila Winona (McIntire) Seamands was born on June 3,1924 in Webster City,Iowa to Lola W. (Olson) and Harrison A. McIntire. She received her education in rural Hamilton County and Webster City schools,graduating with the Class of 1942, She enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in Omaha, Chicago and New York City. During her enlistment she met and married Edward F. Sutka. The couple had three daughters, Stephanie,Kristine and Jacqueline. They later divorced.
She married James H. Seamands in Webster City on December 11,1953, Sheila worked at Montgomery Ward, Beam Manufacturing, Town and Country Insurance and finally served as Board Secretary and Business Manager for the Webster City Community Schools. Following her retirement from the school district, she moved with her husband to Lincoln,Nebraska where both were employed by Peed Publishing.
Following her husband’s death in 1999, she moved to Ankeny,Iowa to be closer to her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Harold McIntire and her daughter, Stephanie Luiken. She is survived by her two daughters, Kristine (Jerry) Whalen of Altoona, Iowa and Jacqueline Brothers of Ankeny,Iowa,son-in-law David Luiken, grandchildren Lynne Luiken Coyne, Lisa (J.R.) Luiken-Woxell, Chad Severe, Stephen (Alyson) Whalen, Jessica Severe, and Jennifer (Jacob) Juhl, nine great- grandchildren, and special friend and caretaker Mona Ruby.
