October 9th KQWC Sports Rundown

One area high school had their Conference Cross Country Meet cancelled and another had theirs postponed from tonight but we will have one volleyball team in action on this Tuesday night.

South Hamilton Hawks Cross Country

The monsoon-type weather that has been felt throughout North Central Iowa has made life difficult for many local cross country teams but especially so for one local high school. The South Hamilton Hawks runners were set to head to Spring Lake State Park in Jefferson, Iowa for the Heart of Iowa Conference meet but mother nature had other plans. The heavy rains and high winds forced the conference meet to be cancelled and at this time there is no makeup date set.

Here’s Hawks Boys CC Coach Darrell Paulson on the impact the weather has had on his team this fall.

Iowa State Cyclones Football

Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says a final decision on who will start at quarterback against sixth ranked West Virginia will be made later in the week. Freshman Brock Purdy got his first extensive action and passed for 318 yards and rushed for 84 in a win at Oklahoma State. Kyle Kempt could also be available. He injured a knee in a season opening loss at Iowa.

Campbell says a decision will be made after watching Kempt practice.

New NCAA rules would allow Purdy to play in four games and still be a freshman next season. Campbell expects him to eclipse that number.

Heisman Trophy candidate Will Grier and the 6th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers visit Jack Trice Stadium Saturday at 6PM.

Clarion Goldfield Dows Volleyball

On the docket for tonight, the Clarion Goldfield Dows Cowgirls Volleyball team will host the Garner Hayfield Ventura Cardinals. The Cowgirls enter tonight’s match 22 and 8 overall record and sit in a 3-way tie with Iowa Falls-Alden and Humboldt atop the North Central Conference. The Cardinals enter the match with a 6 and 13 overall mark for the contest which starts at 7:30PM in Clarion.

North Central Conference Cross Country (Postponed)
The Webster City Lynx and Clarion Goldfield Dows Cowboys had been scheduled to join the other 6 Cross Country teams in the North Central Conference for the 2018 Conference meet at Mayne’s Grove in Hampton, Iowa but that meet has been postponed due to the inclement weather hitting north central Iowa over the past several days. The meet is now set for Thursday at Mayne’s Grove pending the weather.
