Ottumwa woman dies in Tuesday evening motorcycle accident in Hamilton County.

The Iowa State Patrol investigated a motorcycle accident early Tuesday evening near Ellsworth at the 126 southbound mile marker of Interstate 35. Reportedly a southbound 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 52-year-old Todd Burnstedt of Ottumwa lost control when the rear tire of the motorcycle blew out. Burnstedt attempted to keep control of the motorcycle but traveled sideways and went down on its right side. Burnstedt and his passenger 55-year-old Debra Burnstedt of Ottumwa were thrown onto the highway. Debra Burnstedt was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for treatment of her injuries. She died later Tuesday night. Todd Burnstedt was transported by ambulance to Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames where he was treated and later released. The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
