June 20th KQWC Sports Rundown

For the second consecutive night we’ll see no high school baseball or softball action in our KQWC area as the result of daytime rains on Tuesday.

Tuesday Cancellations

The only local high school teams with games scheduled for Tuesday night were the South Hamilton Hawks softball and baseball teams. The Hawks were set to hit the road for a pair of varsity games against Colo-Nesco but both the baseball and softball fields are still under a fair amount of water and as such the non-conference games will be cancelled and at this time no makeup date has been scheduled.

Wednesday Schedule

Coming up tomorrow in area high school summer sports action we’ve got a full docket.

Two area high schools will kick off the activities as the Clarion Goldfield Dows softball and baseball teams will visit Webster City. The Cowgirls softball team hits the road looking for their first North Central Conference victory as they have started off league play 0 and 9 and just 3 and 11 overall. The Webster City Lynx, on the other hand, host Clarion Goldfield Dows in the midst of a 3 game winning streak that has pushed their record to 11 and 9 this season. The Lynx do sit at just 3 and 5 in conference play this year but defeated Clarion Goldfield Dows by a score of 12 to 5 back on June 1st.

The Cowboys baseball team will look to get just their second victory of the entire season Wednesday when they visit the North Central Conference leading Webster City Lynx. Clarion Goldfield Dows baseball has lost 6 consecutive games since knocking off Iowa Falls Alden two weeks ago and enter the game with a 1 and 12 overall mark. The Lynx are coming off of their first loss in their last 9 games after taking a 7-6 defeat at the hands of Humboldt last Wednesday. Both Lynx-Cowboys games are set to begin at 7:30PM from Webster City High School.

The South Hamilton Hawks summer athletic teams make the short jaunt to Gilbert Wednesday for a pair of Heart of Iowa Conference games. The Hawks softballers enter with a 7 and 12 overall record having lost 4 of their last 5. Gilbert sits at a paltry 3 and 12 this season but one of their victories was a 2-0 shutout over the Hawks in Jewell on June 4th.

The Hawks baseball team currently sports a 4 and 9 overall record and Wednesday’s test will be a tough one as the Gilbert Tigers are 11 and 7 and already defeated the Hawks 9 to 7 two weeks ago. Softball-7PM Baseball-7:30.

And the final area teams in action Wednesday hail from Eagle Grove High School. The Eagles softball team enters play with a 5 and 17 record but are coming off of solid 7-6 victory over Northwood Kensett Monday. It’ll be tough sledding for the Eagles girls though as they host a Newman Catholic team from Mason City that has won 19 of their 23 games played as they invade Eagle Grove.

The Eagles baseball team is playing some of its best ball of the season having won 4 of their last 5 to bring their season record to 7 and 9 overall. Well the baseball team will face an even tougher challenge as Class 1A’s top ranked team, the 21 and 1 Newman Catholic Knights. Eagles softball begins at 6PM, baseball at 7:30 Wednesday from Eagle Grove.
