5 Seconds of Summer are “Back” with new single, tour announcement

Alexandra GavilletWant them back?  You got it.

5 Seconds of Summer have returned with their long-awaited new single, “Want You Back,” as well as dates for a spring tour.

The song is the band’s first release in nearly two years, and the first for their upcoming third album, which they’ve spent the last year creating in L.A.  It’s due out later this year.

In a statement, 5SOS says, “Finally…It’s been 3 years since our last album and we are so ready to share new music with the world.”

Explaining the long break, the band added, “After spending the last 5 years on the road since the age of 16, it was important we took time to reflect as individuals and now we’re coming back stronger and more unified than ever.”

“These songs mean the world to us and we have held nothing back in writing and recording this album,” they add. “We’ve been rehearsing a lot of the new songs live and can’t wait to get back out on tour to connect with our incredible fans.”

The 5SOS tour kicks off March 20 in Stockholm, Sweden and arrives in North America — specifically, Boston — on April 8.  The North American leg concludes April 27 in San Francisco, and the band then moves on to shows in Singapore, their native Australia and Mexico before wrapping things up in Brazil on June 6.
